Pilobolus
Intensive workshops for adults
Adult intensive workshops are designed to get your creative juices flowing, challenge your body and your mind, and open up a world of collaborative and movement-based possibilities.
Pilobolus's founders were not dancers, but curious and interested movers. Pilobolus camps underline our founders' ideas that anyone can dance, and can create dance. Whether you haven't taken a dance class in 20 years, take class regularly, or have never even danced a step, there is a place in a Pilobolus Intensive for you. Pilobolus focuses on how people, working together, can create form and movement to breathtaking effect. In Pilobolus Workshops and Camps, we work with dancers and non-dancers alike to expand the idea of what dance is, and increase collaborative and performance skills.

WORKSHOP SCHEDULE & DETAILS
WEEK 1
PILOBOLUS: TECHNIQUE + PHILOSOPHY
Open to dancers and non-dancers alike, this workshop welcomes all to experience Pilobolus's creative process. This session is playful, group-driven, physically challenging and fun. Participants will explore improvisation and create collaborative choreography. The week ends with a showing for friends and invited guests. Pilobolus fans and curious minds from all walks of life will learn to access untapped areas of creativity and improve effectiveness in a group.
WEEK 2
PERFORMANCE: ONSTAGE + BEYOND
Allowing participants to expand upon a basic knowledge of improvisation and group interaction, this workshop focuses on developing performance and partnering acumen. We will spend time each day learning signature Pilobolus weight-sharing techniques and how to use them in the creative process. Push yourself to experience how the Pilobolus dancers create and perform. This week will include rigorous physical training, improvisation work, partnering, and creating works collaboratively. The week ends with a showing for friends and invited guests.
WEEK 3
CREATION: VISION AND REVISION
This workshop explores the depth of the group choreographic process; not just creating, but developing work. The process relies on each individual's knowledge of complex partnering, choreography, collaboration, and direction. Choreographers dig deep in the creative process, as they re-work, polish, edit, and revise. The week culminates with a showing of collaboratively created works. Previous Pilobolus Workshop participation strongly recommended.
Performance Perk:
Attendees receive a seat at a Pilobolus performance at The Joyce Theater in NYC for each week registered!

Location:
Our workshop is held at the Woodhall School, 58 Harrison Ln, Bethlehem, CT 06751.We will be working in the school’s Gym - a huge, beautiful space big enough to hold 100! There is no A/C but there are plenty of doors that we can open to let in air.
Clothing:
Please wear clothing that is very comfortable and not limit your ability to move freely. You can either have bare feet (preferable) but also feel free to use a lightweight sneaker or similar shoe.Lunch:
Bring a water bottle water and a snack with you to the studio. There will be a one-hour break for lunch each day with places within walking distance or a short drive to pick up a sandwich or other lunch food. There is a refrigerator in the dorm if you want to bring your own and keep it cold. After hours:
There are a few lakes in the area that you can visit for a swim after the day’s work – so a bathing suit is always a great thing to have. Don’t forget a towel! There are also some great places to hike not too far away. So if you like that, bring clothing and shoes to hike in.
Housing:
If you have reserved a room in our Dorm housing, there is an additional sheet I will be sending out with information about that. The dorms are about 100 yards from the studio space. There is no additional charge for housing for the teacher training workshop, but you must check out on Sunday evening, July 28, if you are not staying for the Week 2 workshop.
If you are staying in our dorm housing, please bring a towel, pillow and twin sheets.
Transportation:
Fly into Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (1 hour away) or White Plains, NY (1 hour away). Any of the NYC airports (LaGuardia or JFK) are about 2 hours from Bethlehem, CT.The best way to get from any airport to us is in a car; there is no public transportation available to the town. There is usually ample willingness among participants to help out and drive those without cars.
